With the strength and dedication of both coaches and debaters, the 2008-09
year should be as or even more successful than previous years! With the support
of parents and the community, the CHS Debate Team will participate in
Tournaments across the state and country: 2008-2009 Debate Team Schedule
FACT: THE most
successful public school in the country for the last 4 years. FACT:
The ONLY Georgia public school to qualify for the national
championship FACT: Qualified 7 teams for the national championship -
next best was 4 - no one else had more than 2 (in the entire
country) FACT: Averaging 3 students for full rides to college per
year FACT: 10 national merit finalists - debate had 5 (40-50% of the
national debate finalists were debaters) FACT: Multi-lingual,
multi-cultural group of students from diverse backgrounds dedicated to
mentoring, leadership, and performance

2007-08 Academic Year
CALHOUN, GA- Varsity team - Michael Lacy
and Matthew Foretich - champions of the tournament
- Kaavya Ramesh - overall top-speaker at the tournament
- Novice - teams
of Mustafa Inamullah, Danielle Fredrickson, and Cara Venezia, Shreya Seth both won their semi-finals debates and were named co-champions of the novice division.
GREENHILL FALL CLASSIC
- Senior teams of Michael Lacy/Matthew Foretich and Thomas Beyer/Anthony Pelli advanced to the Octo-final round at the Greenhill Opening national tournament.
- Simon Mettler/Pranav Kaushish lost in the Double-Octofinal round.
WAKE FOREST EARLY BIRD TOURNAMENT
- The Junior team of Weilian Zhang/Richie Choy lost in the Quarterfinal-round of the tournament. Earning them one of the two necessary bids to qualify
them for the prestigious Tournament of Champion National Championship tournament.
- The J-V Sophomore team of Megan Cambre/Sohan Chatterjee were champions of the Junior-Varsity division.
- While Sophomore teams of Kaavya Ramesh/Elizabeth Fan and Jeff Zhang/Sean Robinson were semi-finalists.

SQUAD ACHIEVEMENTS
- Chattahoochee Debate qualified 5 teams to the national tournament - more than any school in the country.

GFCA Novice and JV State Debate Championships
- Swept state weekend by winning both the JV and Novice State Championships. -
Novice State Champions - Mustafa Inamullah and Kaitlyn Walker.
- Shreya Seth - top individual speaker
- JV division - top 5 spots: Megan Cambre, Sohan Chatterjee, Elizabeth Fan, Matthew Rosenthal, Sean Robinson, Jeff Zhang, Adam Kostrinsky, Kevin Kim, Kaavya Ramesh, and Joshua Lee. Sohan was named the top individual speaker.
2006-07 Academic Year
Some 75 students participated to compete at the Varsity, Junior Varsity and Novice levels. At the National Tournament, five different CHS Debate teams qualified, including five juniors! (No other school had more than 3 teams qualify and no team sent more than 2 juniors.) In addition, the senior team of Ovais Inamullah and Gary Seidman finished 10th in the nation at the Tournament of Champions National Competition.
The Varsity Team:
- was among the TOP 16 schools at the preseason Invitational held at Greenhill in Dallas, Texas
- was among the TOP 8 schools in the country at the Harvard Round Robin
- was the champion of the Lexington High School Invitational, Brookwood, Milton and Calhoun
- was a finalist at Westminster, University of Georgia, Carrolton, and All-State
- was a semifinalist at the University of Michigan, the Montgomery Bell Academy, Ohio Valley and Vestavia Hills
- had four teams in the final 16 at the Westminster Tournament
- GHSA Varsity State champion
The Junior Varsity Team:
- were top 10 sophomore/sophomore teams in the country
- state J-V runner-ups
- Quarterfinalists at the Woodward Academy JV National Tournament
The Novice Team:
- was the champion of the Woodward Academy Novice National Tournament
- placed 3 teams in the top 16 at the national tournament in addition to the champs
- was GHSA State Champion and runnerup having closed out the final round

2005-06 Academic Year
Some 70 students participated to compete at the Varsity, Junior Varsity and
Novice levels. At the National Tournament, seven different CHS Debate teams
qualified tying for the most ever by any school! (One other school fielded four
teams and no other school had more than two teams competing.) In addition, two
CHS teams finishing 9th and 10th in the country at the Tournament of Champions
National Championship.

in Dallas, Texas
- was among the TOP 8 schools in the country at the Harvard Round Robin
- was a finalist at the University of Kentucky Tournament
- was a semifinalist at the Harvard University Invitiational

- finished 3rd and 4th at the Lexington High School Invitational in
Boston,Massachusets
- had eight teams in the final 16 at the Westminster Tournament
- had two teams in the TOP 10 at the Wake Forest University Tournament
- was a semifinalist at the University of Michigan Tournament
- was Co-Champion at the Milton High School Tournament

The Junior Varsity Team:
- were first and second place sophomore/sophomore teams in the country

- finished first and second at the St.Mark's Sophomore Only Invitational
- Quarterfinalists at the Woodward Academy JV National Tournament

- A grade point average of 98.4 for the entire squad
- members finishing with a 1400 or better SAT score
- graduates attending Northwestern University, Duke University, University of
Michigan, Rice University, Univerity of Southern California, New York University
and the University of Georgia, with debate scholarship offers from UGA, USC and
Michigan.

Debate Team Successes continue after High School
2005-2006 Seven seniors finishing with a 1400 or better SAT Seniors
attending Universities: Northwestern, Duke, University of Southern California,
Michigan, Rice, NYU, and UGA. Including debate scholarship offers at UGA, USC,
and Michigan.
2004-2005 Seniors Attending - Northwestern, Michigan State (full
debate scholarship), Georgia Tech, University of Central Oklahoma (full debate
scholarship), Emory, and others.
